What I’m doing now
I’ve started studying the TrueType Instruction Set. I’ve manually hinted some fonts in Glyphs and dabbled in VTT before, but now I mostly use ttfautohint with some control files. My goal is to develop a deeper understanding of the underlying instructions so I can rethink my hinting strategy towards a lighter approach.
I have also started learning Swift! I am writing a PDF reader for iPad with the focus on pixel-perfect page flipping. The goal is to be able to flip back and forth between pages without the annoying flashes of content in low resolution. I have a proof of concept right now that pre-renders neighboring pages and is largely working, but I’m still refining.
And to make it a learning triad, I’m taking Spanish classes. I’m still at the A1.2 level, but it’s been a fun experience.
